Life Beyond Work

Where curiosity, creativity, and connection come to life, outside the boardroom.

The Human Behind the Title

Beyond the Boardroom

Behind the strategy decks and transformation programmes is a father, a rider, a photographer, and someone who finds as much meaning in a mountain trail as in a boardroom.

My daughters keep me grounded, reminding me that the best leadership lessons come not from frameworks, but from people you love. Family is where I recharge, reflect, and find my compass.

On weekends you'll find me on two wheels, chasing open roads across Karnataka, behind a lens looking for light in quiet moments, or when the world allows, doing absolutely nothing at all. A good, long sleep is an art form I take very seriously.

Movies

Films that stayed with me long after the credits rolled, each one a conversation I keep returning to.

I

The Shawshank Redemption

1994
Drama·Frank Darabont

A masterclass in hope. No matter how bleak the walls around you, the human spirit, when paired with patience and purpose, always finds its way through.

II

Seabiscuit

2003
Drama · Sport·Gary Ross

An underdog story that transcends racing. About broken people and a broken horse finding purpose in each other and proving that it's never too late to matter.

III

The World's Fastest Indian

2005
Drama · Biography·Roger Donaldson

Burt Munro didn't have the money, the machine, or the odds, but he had an unshakeable belief. A love letter to anyone who has ever chased something everyone else thought was impossible.

IV

F1

2025
Action · Sport·Joseph Kosinski

Speed, strategy, and the obsession to compete at the edge of human limits. Reminds me that the difference between winning and losing often lives in the mind, not the machine.

V

Peaceful Warrior

2006
Drama · Sport·Victor Salva

There are no ordinary moments. This film changed how I think about presence, ego, and what it actually means to be strong. Socrates remains one of cinema's great teachers.

VI

3 Idiots

2009
Comedy · Drama·Rajkumar Hirani

The best films make you laugh and question everything you believe, at the same time. This one asked me whether I was chasing excellence or just a certificate.

VII

Schindler's List

1993
Drama · History·Steven Spielberg

Leadership and moral courage in the darkest of times. A reminder that one person, doing the right thing, can change the world even when the world isn't watching.

VIII

Interstellar

2014
Sci-Fi · Drama·Christopher Nolan

Love as a dimension. Science as poetry. It stretched my imagination and moved me to tears in the same breath. Rare for anything to do both.

IX

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

2011
Drama · Adventure·Zoya Akhtar

Three friends, open roads, and the realisation that the life unlived is the only real regret. Watched it at a life crossroads. It hit differently.

X

Gladiator

2000
Action · Drama·Ridley Scott

Strength and honour. When everything is taken from you, character is all that remains. Maximus lives by that, and so should we.

XI

The Dark Knight

2008
Action · Thriller·Christopher Nolan

The Joker's chaos versus Batman's conviction. A film about what it costs to hold the line, and whether the line is even worth holding.

XII

Dil Chahta Hai

2001
Comedy · Drama·Farhan Akhtar

Friendship, growing up, and figuring it all out without a map. Still the most honest film made about what it feels like to be young and slightly lost.

In no particular order. Ask me about any of them. I can talk films for hours.

Papa Gyan

My Philosophy

Things I believe. Things I repeat. Things my daughters have lovingly (and sometimes reluctantly) dubbed Papa Gyan.

Like the Force in Star Wars, we all carry both light and darkness within us. What defines us isn't which side exists, it's the choices we make, every single day, about which one we feed.

On human nature, moral choice, and the Star Wars fan in me.

Life

When you walk into a room, everyone else is just as nervous and self-conscious as you are. So the real question is, why are you the one letting it show?

On confidence. Everyone is fighting the same inner battle. Own the room anyway.

Growth

All men are dogs, remember that. Be very, very sure of someone's intentions before you let them anywhere near your heart.

Blunt Papa Gyan for my daughters. Said with love. And full conviction.

For My Girls

We are the lazy ones, and that's exactly why we innovate. The best shortcuts aren't cheating, they're genius wearing a disguise.

On why the most efficient people are often the most creative.

Work

Whatever you do, make sure it's the best you can offer. Not by the world's standards, but by yours. Your own bar is the only one that matters.

On personal standards and the only benchmark worth keeping.

Growth

Keep your priorities clear. If they aren't giving you happiness, they aren't the right priorities.

On making sure what you're chasing is actually worth catching.

Happiness

Why do I like dark chocolate ice cream? Because I like it. You don't always need a reason, and learning that is half the battle.

On the radical act of just enjoying what you enjoy, unapologetically.

Happiness

It's the ones who care who have everything to lose. Not everyone is wounded by the same things. Some people pass through untouched. But the ones who care leave parts of themselves in what they love, what they build, what they believe in. And when those things are lost, something of them is lost too.

On the cost of caring deeply, and why it's still worth it.

Life

Ashish, as heard by his daughters far more times than they'd admit.

The Idea is King Again

How AI brought back the magic I lost somewhere between VB6 and Enterprise Java. In 1999, you had an idea at 10 AM and a working app by lunch. Then the world decided this was too simple. Now, something has shifted.
